The Geneva Motor Show marked the debut of Honda’s latest heavy-hitter – a highly-anticipated hot hatch variant of the popular Civic nameplate termed the Honda Civic Type R. The model is a direct response to Ford’s reputable Focus RS, another high-power, high-speed hatchback designed to deliver thrills, but this time, Honda is coming for Ford. The Civic Type R model is already gaining momentum among enthusiasts and is slated to make an official appearance on the market in late spring, just a few months away.
The Civic Type R might have a Japanese brand name, but the car itself will be more American than you’d think. The sport hatchback’s 306-horsepower engine will actually be produced at Honda’s factory in Sidney, Ohio. Additionally, despite upgrades to other parts of the platform and suspension, the Type R will actually weigh 15 pounds less than your standard 2017 Honda Civic sedan. With three different driving modes, Brembo brakes, and an adaptive suspension, the Civic Type R is ready to roll.
With the Civic Type R model so close you can almost taste it, auto fans are preparing to put the hot hatch to the test when it comes to performance capabilities, eager to see all the Type R has to offer. Will it hold its own against the Focus RS? We here at Apple Honda think so.
